The Regional Accreditation Committee (RAC) conducted inspections at five (5) Penaeus vannamei Farms located in Sarangani Province and General Santos City.
Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) 12 under the leadership of Regional Director Usop D. Pendaliday, Jr., is reinforcing its farm accreditation procedures through the Regional Accreditation Committee (RAC). This initiative is in direct response to the operators’ requirements for maintaining a registered facility for their farms. During their recent activities, the team carried out inspections on five farms: one for renewal of accreditation and four others that were new applicants seeking accreditation including one for National Residue Control Program (NRCP) accreditation.
The Farm registration and the National Residue Control Program is a fundamental component of a nation’s commitment to food safety, consumer protection, sustainable agriculture, international trade, and overall public health. Its effective implementation contributes to the well-being of both consumers and the agricultural industry, fostering a safe and reliable food supply chain.
Aquaculture farm and facility operators who wish to apply for farm registration and accreditation can initiate the process by notifying the BFAR 12 office. They are required to submit a letter of intent along with the following documents: Mayor’s permit, Business permit, Farm Layout, Sketch map, Land title/lease contract, SEC registration (for corporations), organizational structure, biosecurity standards, and a list of drug or chemical reagents.
For any inquiries or clarifications regarding farm registration and/or accreditation, farm operators have two options. They can either visit the BFAR satellite office located at 2/F RD Building, Santiago Boulevard, General Santos City, or they can reach out to the nearest Provincial Fishery Office in their area. Additionally, they may contact Omar M. Sabal, the RAC Chairperson, on his mobile number
